Troubleshooting Microphone Detection Issues

If you are experiencing issues with your microphone, such as XpressLab is not dectecting your microphone or you cannot record and/or hear any sound, try the troubleshooting steps detailed below:

  1. Check your microphone and audio settings by click the Audio Setup audio_set_up.JPG button found in the top right corner of your screen. This will open your Audio Settings and Diagnostic Information.
  2. Start by plugging your microphone into your computer. Double check that you have plugged your microphone in to the appropriate jack.
  3. Wait a few seconds to give your computer system time to recognize the new plugin and then click the Re-Run Diagnostics button.
  4. If your microphone still isn't detected, refresh your browser by clicking and holding the Ctrl button on your keyword (PC) or the Command button (Mac) and then clicking the Refresh button Refresh.JPG located in your web browser's address bar.
  5. If your microphone still isn't detected, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies. 
    • If you are using Chrome: 
      • Click the Chrome Menu button History_Chrome.JPG.
      • Click History.
      • Click the Clear browsing data button.
      • In the box that appears, click the checkboxes for "Cookies and other site and plug-in data" and "Cached images and files." 
      • Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data that you want to delete. Choose beginning of time to delete everything. 
      • Click the Clear browsing data button
    • If you are using Firefox:
      • Click the Menu button History Chrome.JPG.
      • Click History.
      • Click View Recent History.
      • In the box that appears, click the checkboxes for Cookies and Cache.
      • Use the Time range to clear drop down menu to select that amount of data you wish to delete. Select Everything to delete all data.
      • Click the Clear Now button.
    • If you are using Safari:
      • Use the Safari menu bar and click the Safari option.
      • Select the Preferences link. In the Preferences window, click the Advanced tab. 
      • At the bottom of the window, select the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox.
      • Return to the Safari menu bar and click the Develop option.
      • Select the Empty Caches link.​
  6. As a last resort, exit and close all your browser windows. Then, re-open a fresh window and log back into XpressLab. Click the Audio Setup button and check your microphone again. If your microphone still isn't detected, restart your computer.
